- It was my first ride of the season (for shame!)
- Averaged just shy of 20 MPH
- The sound my bike shoes make when I clip in is hot (or is that haute, or perhaps hawt?)
- Keeping pace with, and in several cases, passing vehicular traffic
- Soaring heart rate pounding up Harlem Hill
- My half grin / half grimace that comes only with hard effort on a bike
- The wind roaring in my ears
- Dropping guys on ludicrously expensive bicycles (“nice bike, you should learn how to ride it”)
- Because 8 great reasons isn't enough, seeing my good friends Yvonne and Eddie running over the 59th Street Bridge
- And one more for good measure... I found chain grease in my ear. Sweet!

Hey - you missed "seeing Yvonne". jk.
you looked good out there. I was dying in the humidity so your 'good job' helped me out a lot!
Good Lord, Yvonne! You are absolutely right!
Adding a 9th reason now!
#7. you're sure it wasn't the subway noise?
it sounds like you had a wonderful workout.
how did the grease get in your ear?!
Are you sure that wasn't baby poop? You are a father now... stranger things have happened.
Okay, okay. Now I really will get out on my bike this weekend.
